Risers, Flowlines & Umbilicals

At our Newcastle site, K2 Polymers specialise in end of life, decommissioned subsea cable recycling using custom designed systems and machinery.

Operating from an ideal location on the banks of the river Tyne and close to leading equipment and service providers in the North Sea oil and gas industry, we have dedicated access to both deep water quay and heavy lift facilities for direct unloading of decommissioned risers, flowlines and umbilicals. In addition, we recycle the outer skins of seismic streamers from manufacturing and consumer waste.

Typically, these heavy industrial multi-core cables and flowlines consist of many integrated material layers, each of which is designed to withstand the rigors of deep-sea pressure, environmental temperature variation and operational stress. Due to the critical nature of the application, at end of life, this redundant waste cannot be reused for the same purpose and as such would traditionally be destined for landfill or left on the seabed. At K2 Polymers we provide innovative solutions for our clients to meet challenging environmental commitments that encourage 100% subsea cable waste reclamation back to shore. Our specialised processes enable us to fully recycle this heavy industrial waste for reprocessing, at scale, for return into more conventional manufacturing-material supply chains.

Having previously been awarded the prestigious BCE award (Business Commitment to the Environment) for the recovery and recyling of over 100km of decommissioned flowline destined for landfill, our site has been recently extended to meet future needs and capacity for increased North Sea platform decommissioning programmes.
